Castle Kostelec nad Černými lesy

Distance from Český Brod: 15 km

The original castle called Černý Kostelec was first mentioned in 1348, although the local area was already settled by colonists in the first half of the 13th century.

The first known owner of Černý Kostelec of non-royal origin was then Ješek from Náchod. His sons sold the castle and manor of Černý Kostelec to Jan Sekretari, from whom the Slavats from Chlum and Košumberk acquired it in 1492. Diviša Slavat († 1575) had his property confiscated by the Czech king Ferdinand I for his participation in the first estate uprising in 1547.

Currently, the castle is home to the School Forest Enterprise in Kostelec nad Černými lesy, which is the university forest farm of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague.
